As for me, I prefer watching films to attending concerts. First of all, watching films is a very relaxing activity. For example, no matter how many times I watch movies like Spiderman and Pirates of the Caribbean, I get lost in the stories and forget about the outside world. Secondly, I think of films as artwork, so I try to appreciate them as works of art when watching them. For example, the acting, camerawork, lighting, and many other aspects of a film are all important. When they come together successfully, like in Citizen Kane, for example, I realize I’m watching something more than a movie. This makes me appreciate watching the film even more.

Many hotels give discounts of up to 20% for large groups. On the other hand, for young travelers, backpacking remains popular, especially in Europe. The notice describes a new university tutoring system.The woman is against the university’s decision to replace face-to-face tutoring with a computer-based tutoring system. First, she believes that students will require excellent typing skills in order to take advantage of the new tutoring system. However, she states that many students lack the ability to type well enough, so the new tutoring system will be much slower than the face-to-­face system. To her, the inability to type well will hinder the learning process for some students. Second of all, she believes many students will have to upgrade their computers or even buy new ones. According to the woman, this will be very expensive for many students. She believes the former face-to-face method of tutoring is better for students than the new computer-based tutoring system.

Question 3 　　概要

Question 3は「読む」「聞く」「書く」の複数の技能が問われているため、

Integrated問題と呼ばれます。

内容は、大学や学生生活に関連する約75~100字程度のリーディングを45～50秒で読み、

次にそれについて男女の学生2人の会話を聞きます。

この会話では基本的に片方がリーディングの内容に対する自分の意見を2つ述べ、

もう片方の学生は聞き役であることがほとんどです。

リーディングとリスニングが終わったら30秒で回答の準備を行い、

60秒でスピーキングを行います。

Question 3で聞かれる内容は必ず、「リーディングの内容に対する学生の意見」です。

つまり、リーディングとリスニングの内容を要約する問題です。

The man is not pleased that the students have to pay for admission to the school’s health club. (←　Option)  Even though the fee is small, he thinks it is a lot of money for him to

spend. Plus, he states that he doesn’t like the fact that the students have to pay

for things like books, late fees, and lab fees in addition to their tuition.

He feels that the school is charging them enough for lots of different things already. (←Reason 1)  Finally, he believes that it is very unfair that members of the student body have to pay but members of the school’s sports teams do not,( ←  Reason 2) especially because the football team　and coach were the ones who wanted to have the changes made.

▮　Question 2 　　15秒の準備時間－メモ取り

Independent Taskでは、まず画面に問題文が現れ、

続いて15秒間の準備時間が与えられます。

短い時間ですが、話す内容をメモにまとめる時間として有効に使ってください。

15秒の準備時間が終わると、45秒で解答します。

45秒間の中で話す内容は以下の6つです。

1. Main Point　自分の答え
2. Supporting Reason 1　（理由1）
3. Example, Details 1　　（例1）
4. Supporting Reason 2　  (理由2)
5. Example, Details 2       (例2)
6. Concluding Statement    (結論)

TOEFLが難しい一つの理由に、IELTSと比較してメモ取りが非常に重要

になってくることがあります。

メモ取りの方法は人それぞれなので自分でやりやすい方法でメモ取りをしてください。

参考までにメモ取りの1例を紹介します。

▮　Question 2 解答時間（45秒）攻略法

Question 2  (Independent Task)  問題

設問→　15秒の準備時間　→　45秒の解答時間

「よくあるトピックについて質問されます。質問を聞いた後、

15秒準備をして45秒で答えます」との指示があり、設問が読まれ、

画面にも設問が表示されます。

Preparation Time: 15 Seconds Response Time: 45 Seconds と表示れ、

その下に　PREPARATION TIME と書かれたボックスが現れ、

準備時間の残り時間が表示されます。

解答者は準備時間に解答メモを作成します。

15秒過ぎると音が鳴り、PREPARATION TIME のボックスが現れ、

解答の残り時間が表示されます。　

解答者は、残り時間を見ながら45秒で答えます。

45秒を把握する練習法

解答時間45秒という時間の把握は慣れるまで練習してください。

初めのうちは、スピーキング用問題集の解答例を模範英文としてインプット

することから始めるのが現実的です。

できるだけ多くの解答例を時間を図りながら、はっきりと、適度なスピードで

45秒以内で読み上げる練習をしていき、慣れたところで、

解答例を見ずにスピーチをします。

解答時間と評価について

解答に与えられた45秒ぴったりで発言を終わる必要は全くありません。

もちろん短すぎてはいけませんが、時間をオーバーしてしまうと

自動で録音が終了してしまいます。

時間内に終えることの方が、長く喋ることよりも重要です。

また、時間が余っているからといって断続的に文章を付け足していくと

回答の全体的な印象を下げかねません。

自分の言いたいことが言い終わったら、そこでストップしても構いません。

しゃべり終わってまだ数秒の時間があれば、解答の流れや構成上問題ない

センテンスを加えることも良いでしょう。　

例えば、38秒ぐらいでしゃべり終わっちゃった！そしたら、

Well this is just my opinion and other people may think differently…

のようなどうでもいいことを追加して時間を45秒に近くするように

しても良いかもしれません。

▮　Question 2 流暢さを優先「接続詞」を覚える

スピーキングテストで一番やってはいけないことは、沈黙です。　

当然ですが、沈黙は評価０になります。

文法を気にしすぎるあまり沈黙の時間を作るより、多少間違っていても、

話し続け、流暢さを優先すべきです。

スピーキングQuestion 2 においては、流暢さを示すために、回答の

基本構成は（回答パターン）身に着けておく必要があります。

基本構成に加えて、Question 2の回答に必須の「接続詞」

を覚えることで、流暢さをアピールしましょう。

Question 2 で使える接続語句を覚える。

●　順序を示すのに使える表現

First (最初に), First of all (まず最初に), To begin with (初めに),

Second (２番目に), The second reason is that … (2つ目の理由は…です)

●　例を示すのに使える表現

　For example (例えば), For instance (例えば), such as … (—のような),

●　追加を示すのに使える表現

Next (次に), Moreover (さらに), Furthermore (さらに), In addition (加えて),
