有毒な職場はうつ病に苦しむ可能性が3倍高い 

新しい研究により、有毒な職場はメンタルヘルスに有害である可能性があることが明らかになりました。 1年間の研究は、南オーストラリア大学からのものです。 研究者は、従業員のメンタルヘルスを優先しない企業や組織で働くフルタイムの労働者は、うつ病に苦しむ可能性が3倍高いことを発見しました。 研究者たちは、健康に対する「有毒な」環境の悪影響を調べました。 有毒な職場の要素には、不十分な管理慣行、いじめ、メンタルヘルスの問題を考慮しないことが含まれていました。 研究者たちは、従業員が仕事に不満を持ったり、虐待されたり、燃え尽きたりすると、生産性が低下し、欠席が増えると指摘しました。

New research has revealed that toxic workplaces can be hazardous to mental health. The year-long study is from the University of South Australia. Researchers found that full-time workers who work for companies or organizations that do not prioritise employees’ mental health are three times more likely to suffer from depression. The researchers examined the adverse effect of “toxic” environments on health. Elements of a toxic workplace included poor management practices, bullying, and a failure to consider mental health issues. The researchers indicated that if employees are unhappy at work, mistreated or burnt out, their productivity will suffer and absenteeism will increase.

スピーキングテストで一番やってはいけないことは、沈黙です。　

当然ですが、沈黙は評価０になります。

文法を気にしすぎるあまり沈黙の時間を作るより、多少間違っていても、

話し続け、流暢さを優先すべきです。

スピーキングQuestion 1 においては、流暢さを示すために、回答の

基本構成は（回答パターン）身に着けておく必要があります。

基本構成に加えて、Question 1の回答に必須の「接続詞」

を覚えることで、流暢さをアピールしましょう。

Question 1 で使える接続語句を覚える。

●　順序を示すのに使える表現

First (最初に), First of all (まず最初に), To begin with (初めに),

Second (２番目に), The second reason is that … (2つ目の理由は…です)

●　例を示すのに使える表現

　For example (例えば), For instance (例えば), such as … (—のような),

like — (—のような)

●　追加を示すのに使える表現

●　対比を示すのに使える表現

子供を望まない「Child-Free 」は、アメリカ成人の4分の1　

アメリカでは子供を持つことについての見方が変わっているようです。 新しい調査によると、成人の25％は子供を産むことを望んでいません。 ミシガン州立大学（MSU）の調査によると、アメリカの成人の4分の1が「子供がいない」ことを喜んでいます。 これらの人々は子供を望んでおらず、子供がいなければ幸せだと言っています。 MSUの心理学者であるジェニファーワトリングニールとザカリーニールは、子供を望まない人々がなぜ違うのかについて調査しました。 彼らは、これらの子供がいない人々と「非親」との違いが何であるかを知りたがっていました。 彼らは、非親には「まだ親ではない」（子供を持つことを計画している人）と医学的問題のために子供を持つことができない人々が含まれると言いました。

It seems views on having children are changing in the USA. New research shows that 25 per cent of adults do not want to have children. A study from Michigan State University (MSU) reveals that a quarter of American adults are happy to be “child-free”. It says these people do not want children and are happier without them. MSU psychologists Jennifer Watling Neal and Zachary Neal did research on why people who do not want children might be different. They wanted to find out what the differences were between these child-free people and “non-parents”. They said non-parents include “not-yet-parents” (those planning to have kids) and people who cannot have kids due to medical problems.

第5の海「南極海」　”Southern Ocean” 

私たちの多くは、世界には大西洋、インド洋、太平洋、北極海の4つの海があると考えていました。 それが私たちが学校で教えられたことです。 ただし、インターネットで検索すると、南極と南極の周辺にも「南極海」があることがわかります。 ナショナルジオグラフィック協会は現在、南極周辺のこの水域が本物の海であることを公式に認めています。 地理の教師は、世界には5つの海があることを生徒に教える必要があります。 ナショナルジオグラフィックの地理学者兼地図製作者であるアレックステイトは、次のように述べています。「第5の海として南極海に注目を集めることは、教育[観点]および地図表示の観点から非常に重要であると考えています。」 

Many of us thought the world had four oceans – the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. That’s what we were taught in school. However, a search on the Internet will show that there is also a “Southern Ocean” around the South Pole and Antarctica. The National Geographic Society has now officially accepted that this body of water around Antarctica is a real ocean. Geography teachers will now have to teach their students that the world has five oceans. Alex Tait, a geographer and cartographer at National Geographic, said: “We think it’s really important from an educational [viewpoint], as well as from a map-labelling standpoint, to bring attention to the Southern Ocean as a fifth ocean.”

何故、像の群れは中国の都市に迷い込んだのか  

15 頭の野生のゾウの群れが、中国の 660 万人の都市に近づいています。 アジアゾウのグループは、ミャンマーとラオスとの国境に近い雲南省南部の自然保護区の生息地から約 500 キロの距離を歩きました。 中国の公式通信社である新華社は、群れに 3 頭の子牛がいると報じています。 巨大な獣は、省都昆明の郊外に向かって北に向かっています。 彼らはここ数か月間、高速道路や作物畑を旅してきました。 中国のテレビ局は、この 1 週間、動物たちが水タンクの水を飲み、農民の畑で何キロにもわたるトウモロコシを食べていたと語った。 彼らの旅は、中国の人々を魅了してきました。

A herd of 15 wild elephants is approaching a city of 6.6 million people in China. The group of Asian elephants has trekked nearly 500km from their habitat in a nature reserve in the south of Yunnan province, near the borders with Myanmar and Laos. China’s official news agency, Xinhua, reports that there are three calves in the herd. The giant beasts are heading north to the outskirts of the provincial capital, Kunming. They have travelled along highways and through fields of crops over the past few months. A Chinese TV station said that over the past week, the animals guzzled down the water in a water tank and feasted on kilos of corn in farmers’ fields. Their journey has been captivating the Chinese public.

15秒準備をして、45秒で回答します。

必須　回答の基本構成　（このパターンに沿って答えましょう）

1. 　M (Main Point)    

　　　主題。　2つの意見や立場のうち1つを選びのべます。

2. 　O (Organization Indicator)

      　構成表示。　理由の数、ときに内容を示します。省略しても構いません

3.　 R1 (Supporting Reason 1)

   　　　 主題の第1の理由

4. 　 E1 (Example, Details 1)

             第1の理由に関する例や詳細

5.  　R2 (Supporting Reason 2)

            主題の第2の理由

6.  　E2 (Example, Details 2)

            第2の理由に関する例や詳細

7.   C ( Concluding Statement)

　　 結論。「これらの理由で、私は～と考える」と述べます。　省略しても構いません。

順序、結論などを示す「接続語句」T (Transition Word) を適切に使うことも大切です。

Some people prefer to shop for fruit and vegetables in supermarket chains. Others prefer outdoor markets.  Which do you think is better and why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your preference.

  スーパーマーケットチェーンで果物や野菜を買うことを好む人もいます。 一方で、屋外市場を好む人もいます。　あなたは、どちらが良いと思いますか、そしてそれはなぜですか？ あなたの意見を理由および例を挙げて説明してください。

解答例を　回答基本構成で色分けしてみます。

(M) Personally, I prefer to shop for my fruits and vegetables at outdoor markets instead of at supermarkets. (T) The first reason is that (R1) the produce I purchase at outdoor markets is often fresher than the produce sold at supermarkets.  (E1) For example, many times, the people selling the fruits and vegetables are the farmers who grew the products. Since they came straight from the farm, I know that they’re fresh.   (T2) Another important thing is that  (R2) you can often negotiate the price at outdoor markets, which is something you can’t do when you shop at supermarkets. (E2) By negotiating the price, this lets you save money, especially when you buy large amounts of produce.

大坂なおみ  全仏オープン辞退

テニス界のスーパースター、大坂なおみが、世界のメディアに対応しなければならないというストレスを理由に、全仏オープンから撤退した。 日本の世界ランキング2位の大阪（23）は、「メンタルヘルスを守る」ため、試合後にインタビューをしたくないと発表した。 女子テニス協会は、これはプロ選手としての義務に違反していると述べた。 当初、メディアに話さない場合はトーナメントから追放すると脅されていました。 それ以来、後戻りしており、メンタルヘルスの問題を抱えているプレーヤーをサポートすることで「有意義な改善を生み出す」ことを望んでいると述べています。 さらに、「ナオミが感じているプレッシャーと不安を、彼女自身の言葉で共有してくれたナオミを称賛します」と付け加えた. 

Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the French Tennis Open citing stress from having to address the world’s media. Japan’s world number two Osaka, 23, announced she did not want to do interviews after her matches to “protect her mental health”. The Women’s Tennis Association said this was in breach of her obligations as a professional player. It initially threatened to expel her from the tournament if she did not talk to the media. It has since backtracked and said it wants to “create meaningful improvements” in supporting players with mental health problems. It added: “We commend Naomi for sharing in her own words the pressures and anxieties she is feeling.”

TOEFLのスピーキングは4つのQuestionから構成されています。

1問が独立型問題（Independent Tasks）,残り3問が統合問題

（Integrated Tasks）になります。

この２つは、簡単に言えば「スピーキングだけ」の問題か、

「スピーキング、リスニング、リーディング」が合体した問題かになります。

1問から成るIndependent Tasks は「なじみ深く一般的なもの」が

出題されます。

一方、3問から成るIntegrated Tasksは「キャンパスで交換されるもの」と

「様々な学問分野の講義」から出題されます。

それでは、それぞれのQuestionについて詳しく解説していきましょう。

Independent　Tasks（独立型問題）

◆　問題数： 1問

◆　準備時間：15秒
◆　 回答時間：45秒

Independent taskで質問される内容は、あまり難しくありません。

Familiar Topics (なじみ深く一般的トピック)です。

ある事柄に対して立場を選び、根拠を示せば良いのですが、根拠がすぐに思いつ

かないと時間が無駄になってしまいます。

準備時間が15秒ということを考慮すると、すぐに言いたいことを思いつけるアイデア力

は力強い武器となります。

スピーキングセクションですから、もちろんスピーキングスキルが必要となります。

発音がネイティブレベルである必要はありません。

イントネーション、強弱がはっきりしていて、単語が明確に発音できることが、

まずは大切です。
