ask someone out 　デートに誘う

「  誰かをデートに誘う」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”ask someone out ” といいます。

「ask someone out」という表現は、誰かをデートに誘う際に使われる

非常に一般的な英語のフレーズです。

このイディオムの「ask out」は、文字通りには「外に尋ねる」と解釈できますが、

ここでの「外」とは家やオフィスなどの個人のプライベートな空間の外、

つまり公共の場やデートをするための場所を指します。

このフレーズは、特に恋愛的な背景で使われることが多いですが、
友達として何か活動を共にする際に使うこともあります。

誰かを公的な場へ招待する行為を指すため、「ask out」がデートの誘いと

結びついたのは自然な流れと言えるでしょう。

「  具合が悪い」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”under the weather ” といいます。

He is under the weather today and will not report to work. 

彼は今日は体調が悪いので、仕事に行かないだろう

語源は、海洋用語で、航海中に気分が悪くなった船乗りは、デッキの下に移動し身体を

休めたそうです。 気分のすぐれない者はデッキの下、つまり空が見えない場所

（under the weather）に移されたことから、このフレーズが使われるようにな

ったと言われています。

また、このフレーズは、体調が悪い時だけでなく、気分が落ち込んでいるようなときにも使います。

「  同じ所に閉じ込められて気が変になる」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”stir crazy ” といいます。

長い間室内に閉じ込められていたため、彼はイライラして気が狂いそうになった

stir とは、液体などを掻き回すこと、また精神や感情面の興奮や動揺も意味します。

アメリカのスラングで、stirというと、監獄をあらわし、stir-crazy　とは、

刑務所に長い間投獄されていると、気が狂ったり、精神的に不安定になる

ネイティブのリアル英語  sick as a dog 　ひどく気分が悪い

「 ひどく気分が悪い」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”sick as a dog” といいます。

I had a cold and was as sick as a dog. 

風邪をひいていて気分がひどく悪かった。

普通に具合が悪いときは、” sick”　だけでいいのですが、”sick as a dog”　

だとかなり具合が悪い時です。

面白いフレーズですが、くだけたカジュアル表現なので、親しい間柄の人に対して

使うようにしてください。

なぜ猫でなくて「犬」なのかについては、確かな理由はわからないようですが、

犬が人間の生活に深く関わっているから、あるいは動物の吐く姿としては、

犬をよく目にするから（他の動物が吐く姿はあまり見ない）、あるいは

犬はいつも元気なので、病気の時の元気のない姿のコントラストが印象深いから、

等、由来は諸説あるようです。
