23. 共通・類似・同一に言及する

見たものの共通性や、同一性を表す表現には、bothA and B「AとBの両方」や、both．．．「両方の…」、the same.「同じ…」といったものがあります。All of…「…の全部が」やAll five of..「…の5人全部が」などと、altを使ったフレーズでも共通項が表現できます。さらに、have in common「共通して持つ」というフレーズや identical「同一の」という形容詞を用いることもできます。

◎ both…「両方とも…」
They are both pushing a shopping cart.
彼らのどちらもショッピングカートを押しています。

◎ Both A and B「AとBの両方」
Both the man and the woman are looking at a map.
男性も女性も地図を見ています。

◎ both of… 「… の両方」
Surely, both of them wish this didn’t happen.
確実に、彼らの両方ともこれが起こってほしくなかったでしょう。

◎ the same「同じ；同一の」
They are both wearing the same shorts.
彼らは同じ半ズボンを履いています。

Lastly, their haircuts are the same.
最後に、彼らの髪型が同じです。

The boats are all the same size and shape.
ボートはすべて同じサイズと形をしています。

◎ identical「同一の；まったく同じ」
Their shirts and backpacks are identical.
彼らのシャツとバックパックはまったく同じです。

◎ all…「みんな…」
Another thing we can see is that they are all having a good time.
もうひとつわかることは、彼ら全員が楽しんでいることです。

◎ All of…「…は全部」
All of the people in this picture are using umbrellas.
この写真の中の人たちはみな傘を使っています。

◎ All 数 of…「…の～人全部」
All five of them are laughing. though.
しかし、5人全員が笑っています。

◎ have in common「共通して持っている」
One thing they have in common is they are wearing hats.
