今回は、「一晩泊めてくれない？」と友達に確認する時の表現を覚えましょう。

 

Can you put me up for a night?　　　一晩泊めてもらってもいい？

 

「put me up」を使います。

 

もっと丁寧に言うなら

 

Could you put me up for a night?　　　一晩泊めていただけませんか？

Could you please put me up for a night?　　　一晩泊めていただけますでしょうか？

逆に友達が自分の家に遊びに来ていて「うちに泊まってっていいよ。」というなら

 

We can put you up for a night. 　と言います。

 

「put you up」になっただけですね。

 

泊まる、泊めるは「put up」覚えましたね！

「put up」を使った表現をもう一つ紹介しておきます。

「put up with」・・・を我慢する

何かに我慢できないときに使われる代表的な表現です。

困難な状況や辛い出来事、または誰かの失礼な態度や軽率な振る舞いなどに

耐えられない（我慢できない）状況で使われます。

例えば、「言い訳をする人には我慢できない」と言いたい場合は

「I can’t put up with people who make excuses.」になります。

例文 1

Could you please put me up for the night ?

１晩とめていただけますか。

例文 2

We put up at the hotel for the night.

その夜はそのホテルに泊まった。

「put up」 を使ったイデオム

●　put up with (～に我慢する)

例文: My roommate plays loud music all night, but I have to put up with it because I can’t afford to move out. (私のルームメイトは夜中も大音量で音楽を流すけれど、引っ越す余裕がないので我慢しなければなりません。)

●　put up a fight (戦う、闘う)

例文: The underdog boxer put up a good fight against the reigning champion. (負け犬のボクサーは現役チャンピオンに対してよく戦った。)

●　put up your feet (くつろぐ、くつろいで過ごす)
