ネイティブのリアル英語    hang out 　（外で）遊ぶ

hang out

は「（外で）遊ぶ」「（外出して）長時間ぶらぶらと時間を過ごす」

という意味です。具体的な目的なしに外出する、というニュアンスがあります。

例えば、「ねえ今夜遊ぼうよ！」「今夜パーっとやろうよ！」と日本語でもよく言いますが、

これは英語にすると「Hey let’s hang out tonight!」がピッタリです。

I’ve been hanging out in the schoolyard with my friends today.

今日は友達と校庭で長らくプラプラと時間を過ごしている。

They spent the whole day hanging out in the club.

彼らはクラブで丸一日遊んだ。

日本人であれば「遊ぶ」の英語表現としてplayと表現する人が多いと思います。

しかしこれは間違いです！playは小さな子供が遊ぶといったイメージがあるため、

皆さんが外出して飲みに行ったり、クラブに行ったりする「遊ぶ」は「hang out」です。

外出じゃなくて、家の中でダラダラしているという時は

「chill」もくしは「chill out」を使って表現します。

「I’m drinking beer and chilling at home.」というと

「家でビール飲みながらダラダラして過ごす」です。
